1. Lint roller

This is something everyone should have at home if you have carpets. Vacuum alone isn’t enough to suck out the dirt, crumbs and even some hair from the carpet. This is where lint roller comes to the rescue! No matter how powerful your vacuum is, sometimes dirt and hair are just too stubborn to come off from the carpet. The solution for this is to purchase a lint roller if you don’t already have one and start rolling away!

2. Squeegee to eliminate pet hair

A squeegee is actually meant to clean the windows but it works well for carpets too especially to get rid of pet fur that a vacuum cleaner can’t help. Some pets shed way too much and you have pet fur all over your carpets and rugs. Use a squeegee to help make your life easier. All you need to do is wet the squeegee and use it like you would on the windows. You’ll be able to pick up pet fur as you go along the carpet.

3. Always blot, never rub

Have you ever spilled a drink on your carpet and then panicking away because you don’t know how to clean it? Well, you’re not the only one and try not to panic the next time it happens again. Our first instinct is usually to take a cloth and start rubbing. However, this is a big no-no when it comes to cleaning a spillage on carpets as rubbing it might make it worse by spreading. We want to avoid the stain from going deeper into the fabric as much as possible. Therefore, always blot and never rub. Start with taking a clean cloth and begin to blot gently, from the edges working your way towards the center.

4. Use an iron to remove stains

Remove stains with an iron, whaaat? Yes, you read that right! Some stubborn dry stains can be difficult to remove with a normal cleaner. You can use a hot iron to remove the tough dry stains. You can begin with using a vacuum cleaner to get rid of any loose dirt or hard particles. After that, soak a clean cloth in a solution of vinegar and water with a ratio of 1:3.

Apply the wet cloth onto the stain and leave it there for at least 5 minutes. What the vinegar does is helps to dissolve the stain. Next, use the heated iron and place it on the damp cloth, apply a little pressure and rub it in a circular motion. The pressure will cause the stain to be transferred to the cloth like a temporary tattoo. So next time, you want to remove a dry stain, try this and be careful of the heated iron!

5. Baking soda for oil stains

Oil stains are one of the most difficult stains to get rid of. Cleaning with a regular cleaner isn’t enough to remove the stain. Baking soda is also known as one of the best cleaning agents and this can help with extracting the oil from the carpet. With baking soda, all you have to do is apply a generous amount to the stain and cover the entire stain. Leave it for a few minutes until most of the oil is absorbed by the baking soda. What you will see is a dry crust once it’s full and then it’s ready to be vacuumed. Lastly, after vacuuming, use a cloth to dab the rest of the stain.
