Kitchen cabinets are often overlooked by most homeowners and they should be cleaned more often than we think. We regularly clean the kitchen countertops and floors but how often do we clean the kitchen cabinets? The kitchen is a place where we’re constantly at, we cook, eat, drink and spend time with our family. This means we’re also constantly touching the kitchen cabinets when we look for food, when we make coffee in the morning, when we prepare ingredients to cook as well as preparing plates and cutleries for a meal.
Uncleaned kitchen cabinets accumulate lots of dirt, dust and bacteria that can be harmful to our health. Plus, if the dirt is not attended for a long period of time, they can be difficult to remove and clean. However, cleaning the kitchen cabinets ain’t an easy task to do especially when you have kitchen cabinets that are large! It will take lots of time as well as effort to clean in and out of the cabinets. If you’re looking for the best ways to clean the kitchen cabinets in Malaysia, read on to find out!
1. Prepare cleaning solution
Our regular dishwash soap and water are good enough for many types of kitchen cabinets including painted wood, metal plastic laminate as well as vinyl cabinets. This simple cleaning solution is good enough to get rid of dirt, dust, food stains and mild grease from the cabinets. You may also use an all-purpose cleaner to clean your kitchen cabinets which you can get from the store, however, it’s best to read the instructions first and then test it on a hidden spot of the cabinet to make sure it doesn’t damage the material.
2. Start cleaning from top to bottom
Using a microfiber or any clean dry cloth, you can begin cleaning from the top of the cabinets and work your way down with the cleaning solution that you’ve prepared. You can either spray directly onto the kitchen cabinets or spray on the cloth/sponge first. Also, don’t forget to clean the corners and edges of the cabinets as they’re often overlooked.
3. Dry with a new dry cloth
Using a new dry cloth, wipe the cabinets clean to remove the soap until dry. Excess water left on the cabinet may discolour or damage the material.
4. Clean glass on cabinets or mirror features
Before wiping the glass or mirror features, use a commercial glass cleaner and spray on a lint-free cloth or kitchen towels. Avoid spraying directly on the glass as the solution might seep into the wood or other parts of the cabinet and this may cause discolouration or damage!
5. Don’t forget handles and knobs
For cabinet handles and knobs, you can make a solution of vinegar with warm water. Use a toothbrush to dip into the solution and you can start scrubbing the handles as well as knobs.
6. Clean greasy stains
When you have yellow greasy stains left on your kitchen cabinet for a long time, it may be difficult to clean. For this case, you can make a baking soda paste with water and gently scrub the area using a soft-bristled brush. The grease stains should be able to be removed with this paste. Try not to scrape the stains as this may damage the kitchen cabinets.
7. Removing all things from cabinet
Cleaning the interior is always a good idea as it may be filled with dirt and dust too! Empty the cabinets first before cleaning them so it will be easier for you to clean them. Using a mild detergent or an all-purpose cleaner, wipe the interiors.
8. Dry the interior with a clean cloth
Wipe dry the interior of the cabinets with a clean dry cloth to make sure there is no excess water or soap so as to not damage the cabinets.
9. Clean cabinet contents
Kitchen cabinets have many things placed inside and should be cleaned as well! Wipe each one of them using dishwasher soap with water. Don’t forget to check for expired items such as canned food and get rid of them. Dry the contents with a clean cloth and place them back into the cabinets.
